dana:

A Sanskrit word that connotes the virtue of generosity, charity, or giving of alms. In Hinduism and Buddhism, dana is the practice of cultivating generosity. In some schools of yoga and Hinduism, it is one of the duties or moral observances known as the Niyamas. Dana is a form of generous giving that expects nothing in return.

namasté:

A traditional Indian greeting, it literally translates to “I bow to you” (“nama” means bow, “as” means I, “te” means you.) One of the most common translations of namaste is, “The divine light within me bows to the divine light within you.” Other beautiful translations include: “I honor the place in you where the entire universe dwells”; I bow to the place in you that is love, light, and joy”; “My soul recognizes your soul. We are the same. We are one.”

A little bit about us...

Hello and welcome! What began as a small yoga studio in our home  has evolved into an art studio in which I create art with the hope of bringing peace and healing into our world. I find creating art to be healing and soothing for my soul and I create art with the hope that it will do the same for others. In addition, we have a little urban farm on our property, DaNamaste Farm & Apiary, LLC, where we live with our chickens, ducks, goats, and honey bees. 🙂

My Story

Hi! My name is Dana and I’m so happy you’re here. I love yoga. And I would love to share my yoga journey with you.

I began practicing yoga in 2015 after experiencing numerous health problems over the course of a year. After four emergency room visits and three out-patient surgeries, I’d had enough. I decided to take back control of my health and the search for wellness was on.

It wasn’t long into my search before I came upon the practice of yoga. I bought a Rodney Yee beginners yoga DVD and began practicing Downward Dog and other cool sounding asanas (poses) on my living room floor. I fell in love and have practiced yoga nearly every day since, and obtained my 200 hour yoga teaching certificate in 2019. I now manage my health through yoga, meditation, self-Reiki, acupuncture, natural supplements, and a mostly vegetarian diet with what I like to call a “concentration in Ayurveda.”

I opened a small yoga studio in our home in 2020, but due to the pandemic, it never got off the ground. I continued to practice yoga, but soon found another miraculous tool to help me go deeper into my yoga practice, creating art. I find creating art to be a beautiful way to meditate and to create something from nothing that can ultimately make me and others feel better. With the Yamas (the ethical and moral observances of yoga) and Niyamas (the spiritual and self-discipline observances of yoga) uppermost in my mind, I try to create art that makes others feel joy, peace, healing, and hope.

Welcome to my yoga life. I’m so happy you’re here.

Namasté. With love.

Dana
